The Adolescent Residential Treatment Program at Fort Lauderdale Hospital provides long term treatment, schooling, and social rehabilitation for male adolescents ages 11-17. Adolescents admitted to the Residential Program are those that have consistently evidenced substance abuse, severe emotional disturbance, or significant behavioral dysfunction, resulting in an inability to flourish in typical settings. Therefore, the mission of the Residential Program is to assist each resident in developing the necessary skills to function successfully in home, school and community life.
The Residential Program provides a structural framework by which residential students are assisted in achieving lasting change by way of facilitating consistent pro-social behavior and an improved sense of self. Daily programming includes individual counseling, group therapy, recreation therapy, family therapy, and educational services provided by a certified Broward County Public School Teacher. Critical to the success of any adolescent's treatment is the involvement of the family, and therefore treatment goals are designed to address the needs of the individual adolescent within the broader family context.
