Acute Treatment Program

The adolescent acute treatment program at Fort Lauderdale Hospital provides crisis stabilization, extended care, detoxification, and court-ordered treatment for adolescents ages 11-17. We accept both voluntary and involuntary (Baker Act & Marchman Act) patients. The interdisciplinary treatment team includes nurses, Master's level therapists, mental health technicians, and a medical doctor working under the direction of the attending psychiatrist. The treatment program is well equipped to address issues of addictive, psychiatric or behavioral health.

If you know an adolescent experiencing some of the following symptoms, he/she may meet criteria to be admitted into our acute treatment program.

  • Suicidal Behavior
  • Violent Outbursts
  • Family Problems
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Homicidal Behavior
  • Recent trauma resulting in changes in behavior
  • Eating Disorders
  • Severe mood swings
  • Isolating behaviors (not talking to friends)
  • Difficulty focusing and concentrating
  • Exhibiting at-risk behaviors
    • Substance abuse
    • Running away from home
    • School pattern deviation
    • Trashing their rooms, punching walls
    • Self Mutilation, Cutting
